About Us

How we started...

On April 4, 2004, Karol Childs was inducted into the Tombstone Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), which added another club to her list. After doing this, she discovered there was no genealogy club in Sierra Vista, so she decided to look into starting one. She learned during this process that there had been only two genealogy clubs in the history of the town. The person at the library gave her some names of people who ran those clubs, but they were all in their 90's and weren’t up to doing it anymore.

Sometime in 2005, Karol joined the Sierra Vista Historical Society and became a member of the Board of Directors.

In 2006, Sierra Vista was celebrating its 50th anniversary. Their celebration consisted of recognizing all the service clubs. Karol mentioned that she belonged to the DAR, which is a service club, and asked if she could do a display on the DAR. They agreed and she contacted Nancy Kreiski at the Henry Hauser Museum in the Ethel Berger Center. Nancy agreed, and Karol got together a DAR exhibit for display at the museum. Now this display is a traveling exhibit.

Out of this exhibit, the genealogy club was born, to which members of the Tombstone Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted. During this time, Nancy took an interest and helped get the club a meeting place at the Ethel Berger Center. The Sierra Vista Historical Society continued to foster the club for 13 years. The club met each year from October of one year until April of the next year, until the genealogy club moved to the Sierra Vista Library in 2021. In summer of 2023, the club voted to become independent and today, holds the meetings at the Haymore Plaza Conference Center in Sierra Vista.

Each member of our club has something to offer. We are all at different levels of our own unique family tree research. As some have been working on their tree for years while others just started. We come from different journeys with the same common goal of finding out our history.

Purpose

To foster genealogical research and pay it forward

To forget one’s ancestors is to be a brook without a source, a tree without a root.
